Vienna-born Cornelia James studied art and design at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts before fleeing Austria in 1939. Arriving in London as a refugee, James established a glove making business, founding her own brand in 1946.

James’s lifelong association with the British royal family began a year later—when she provided gloves to the then-Princess Elizabeth for her honeymoon—culminating in 1978 with the granting of a Royal Warrant.

Today, the Cornelia James legacy continues with her daughter Genevieve, who holds the Warrant as glove manufacturer ‘by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen’.
